Welcome to DubeySchaldenbrand.com
When watchmakers Georges Dubey and Rene Schaldenbrand invented a little spring that they found worthy of patenting on March 12,1946, they surely never thought that the company they would form around it would still be in existence sixty years later. But a good idea never dies, and the simple mechanism they developed to enhance a stopwatch's split-seconds function became a cult object, bringing the pair a reputation as innovative watchmakers offering classic, affordable timepieces. But it was perhaps the visible spring on the front of the watch's dial that fascinated people most.

Dubey, an instructor at the reputable school of watchmaking in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and watchmaker Schaldenbrand had wound the spirally shaped spring around the stem of the sweep second hand of a Landeron chronograph caliber. This little spring was the ingenious main ingredient of the reset system for the large second hand of the rattrapante. This "people's rattrapante," a mechanism less expensive to manufacture than the traditional variation, took the hearts of watch fans by storm, and its official name, Index Mobile, became synonymous with that of the Dubey & Schaldenbrand brand. Today the Dubey & Schaldenbrand philosophy is not only cemented in the ingenious invention of its founding fathers, but also rests in the anachronistic, affectionate care for production founded on the principles of the classic art of making beautiful watches. The owner of the company, Cinette Robert, a daughter of the watchmaker dynasty Meylan-LeCoultre and an absolute expert on early watch masterpieces, has an impressive talent for combining the technology of modern mechanical movements with timeless and classic lines. To celebrate this milestone sixtieth year, Robert has created a veritable treasure chest made of burl elm for the brand's sixty most ardent followers. Within this chest resides a limited edition of six timepieces, each representative of one of the Dubey & Schaldenbrand collections that Robert has created in the past eleven years since acquiring the brand. For Robert, this little collection of masterpieces forms the climax of sixty years of development, experience, and tradition in Switzerland's Jura, but also in the region's Les Ponts-de-Martel, where Robert has always made her home.

Crowning the anniversary celebrations, the owner of each of the Collection Sixty treasure chests also has the opportunity to acquire an additional timepiece in 18-karat rose gold that is limited to only ten pieces worldwide. Even in this anniversary year, the Index Mobile continues to play an important role in the collection's leading models — even if it is only an aesthetic and no longer a technical one. The Spiral-Verso VIP contains a visible royal blue Isoval balance spring from Dubey & Schaldenbrand's original stock of 1946. Mounted at the base of the second hand — without function — it lends the dial a very special and technical appearance. Additionally, the Spiral-Verso VIP's case moves in three different directions, so that it is possible to wear the wristwatch with either side facing up or even to put it down on the desk like a clock, its beauty in view for all to see. An exclusive mechanism within the stainless steel case allows it to make these unique movements, released simply by pressing the two buttons located at 12 o'clock.
